Comodule launches advanced connected features for Bafang drive systems to deliver smart and futureproof e-bikes.

The solution gives riders peace of mind with advanced anti-theft features, while OEMs gain powerful digital tools, over-the-air updates, and data-driven business opportunities.

Comodule, the global leader in IoT solutions for light electric vehicles, has launched a deep integration for Bafang drive systems. The development allows Comodule IoT to both control and read information from Bafang’s e-systems, opening the door to a new era of connected e-bikes with enhanced security, smarter features, and futureproof functionality.

Seamless digital security

At the core of the integration is a digital immobilizer with motor lock, making a stolen bike practically unusable. Riders can lock their bike in the app, triggering both immobilization of the drivetrain and, in the case of hub motors, blocking the wheel from rotating freely. Even if the IoT unit is removed, the system remains disabled until unlocked by the rightful owner. Combined with in-app movement alerts, optional sound alarms, and light signals, this provides an unprecedented level of digital theft protection.

Data-based maintenance, services and updates

The software tools enable bike brands and fleet managers to get data insights from their fleets and individual vehicles, diagnose issues and push out over-the-air updates.

Beyond security, the solution gives access to an extensive set of drivetrain and battery data. From ride metrics like speed, cadence, and assist level, to system diagnostics such as error codes, motor and battery temperatures, and battery state of health. This information not only improves the rider experience with real-time dashboards, but also enables OEMs and fleets to monitor performance remotely, plan maintenance proactively, and adjust bike settings over the air.

Efficient fleet control over the air

Over-the-air (OTA) updates further ensure that every bike can evolve with time. Instead of being locked to a fixed model year, OEMs can continuously roll out new features, performance improvements, or tailored configurations directly to customers. This shifts the e-bike from a static product into an upgradable digital platform, unlocking opportunities for personalized services, subscription features, and ongoing customer engagement.

The solution is ideal for fleet operators, enabling top of the class vehicle information for efficient operations, and remote vehicle control to reduce manual labour. For example, execute predictive maintenance, detect product misuse or immobilize the vehicle over the air  in case of unpaid subscription.

Benchmark for digital e-bikes

Sten Soomlais, Chief Product Officer of Comodule: “Open ecosystems are the key to transforming e-bikes into smart bikes. They unlock digital rider experiences, new business models, and give OEMs true freedom of choice over their product and services they offer. This is the path we believe the whole industry must take, and Bafang’s openness has allowed us to push these limits with this integration. It shows how collaboration in an open ecosystem can drive innovation and adoption at scale.
Leo Wang, R&D Senior Manager of Bafang: “We believe a truly smart e-bike is built on a foundation of powerful, reliable platform, seamlessly extended by digital intelligence. While we provide the complete integrated drive system, including motor, display, battery, etc., we firmly believe in keeping our ecosystem open. By connecting Comodule's advanced IoT platform with our drive systems, we are empowering OEM and brand partners with unparalleled flexibility. They can now offer a richer, more secure, and continuously evolving rider experience.

The Comodule-Bafang integration has already been launched to Comodule customers and is available now for new OEM projects. More information can be found at www.comodule.com/bafang.
