IoT-powered e-bike security delivers up to 70% lower insurance rates with Comodule, 2Lock, and Hepster
The joint solution combines Comodule’s IoT-based digital security, 2Lock’s mechanical hub lock, and Hepster’s insurance model for connected bikes, setting a new benchmark for e-bike security and affordability.
The solution makes e-bikes smarter and more secure, offering an unprecedentedly low annual insurance premium of just 1% of the bike’s price for connected e-bikes. This marks a significant milestone in e-bike insurance, recognizing smart anti-theft technologies as the most effective defense against growing e-bike theft.
Unrivalled e-bike insurance offer in Germany
The joint solution delivers stronger protection than traditional locks or GPS-trackers. Thanks to this proven security performance, a €3,000 connected e-bike in Berlin can now be insured for just €30 per year, around one-third of the usual premium for a non-connected model. The insurance is embedded directly into Comodule’s connected service package, with a simple opt-out option for riders.
Comprehensive theft insurance is embedded as part of the connected service, covering burglary, robbery, looting, and damage from theft or attempted theft. Riders receive reimbursement for the full replacement value of the bike, with only an EUR 100 deductible. Available first in Germany with an opt-out option for riders.
As the majority of e-bike owners in Germany insure their bikes, embedded smart security offers OEMs a powerful way to address one of the biggest consumer pain points — theft — while differentiating their products through a seamless, digital experience.
Rider benefits: Smart security that pays back
Comodule IoT enables riders to lock their bike with one click in the app, which simultaneously engages the hub lock, immobilizes the e-system, and triggers sound alarms and movement alerts.
If theft is attempted, the bike sounds an alarm, the motor cannot be activated, the wheel is blocked from spinning and its removal, and the rider receives an instant notification to her mobile phone to take action.
In the event of theft, the rider can share live location and bike data directly with their network, authorities, or insurer.
